Surveying contractors, Murphy Geospatial, recently completed the first phase of detailed topographical surveys for the scheme. Locals may have noticed survey crews carrying out works in and around Bantry between September and November. The works involved surveys of river channels, existing flood defences, property threshold levels, manholes and a bathymetric survey of the harbour. The survey data has been processed and quality checked and is now available to the project team to develop the detailed hydraulic modelling of the catchment. Modelling will be progressed over the coming months to predict the effect of fluvial, pluvial and tidal flood event scenarios. Measures to address these impacts can then be developed and assessed.
