A Public Participation Day will be held on Thursday 30th May 2024 at The Maritime Hotel between 4pm and 8pm. The project team will present the potential options for the flood relief scheme.

Over the next number of weeks Murphy Geospatial, surveying contractors, will undertake the second phase of detailed topographical surveys for the scheme. Their survey crews will be carrying out works in and around Bantry in October and November. The works will involve surveys of river channels, road and footpath alignments, property boundaries and existing roadside structures. Modelling has progressed over the last number of months, and this survey is to help inform the design of potential flood relief measures.

On Monday 11th Sept 2023, structural engineers for the project will carry out preliminary survey works on the Harbour Wall and the River Alley Culvert. These survey works will determine the condition of the Harbour Wall and River Alley Culvert, the results of which will ultimately feed into the optioneering process to select the final flood defence solution for Bantry.

In recent months, ground investigation works and ecological surveys have been undertaken as part of the scheme.

Cork County Council appointed Priority Geotechnical Ltd. in recent months to conduct site investigations for the scheme. Works commenced on 17 January 2023.

Cork County Council, the OPW and members of the JBB-JBA project team met the local community at a Public Participation Day on 18 May 2022.

Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), Patrick O’Donovan, T.D., in Bantry today (3 February 2022) welcomed the appointment of JB Barry and Partners Ltd. in joint venture with JBA Consulting Ltd. as engineering and environmental consultants to carry out the design of the Bantry Flood Relief Scheme.
